Stockfish chess move analyzer2/29/2024 ![]() It displays basic output only, near as I can tell. If you're running Windows, try the Tarrasch GUI. ![]() It's possible, I suppose, that a given GUI might display flawed output due to a bug or a non-standard UCI implementation in Stockfish. Depth is a value of chess engine analysis that indicates the number of half moves (a move made by one side) the engine looks ahead. In any event, I'm not seeing the inexplicable output you describe, so perhaps a screen shot of the output will help. The content of the above mentioned file looked like this: 8. Nf3 scores as the best opening move with eval 0.17, while g4 is considered. ![]() Surprisingly, the two most popular opening moves both e4 and d4 are evaluated as 0.08+ and 0.06+ only. But I am not able to view this file in any chess program (including Arena chess). A guy from Talk chess forum run the infinite evaluation of initial position for 200+ hours on all possible 20 opening moves. The Shredder GUI will even display messages such as "+4.21 means white has a decisive advantage." But these symbols and messages are from the GUI, which is interpreting and expounding upon the engine output. Arena chess says it made the analysis output to C:Program Files (x86)ArenaAnalysis.log file. Some GUI's will add more elaborate symbols or comments. What's your GUI? Chess engines don't produce nuanced evaluation output. Looks like would be the place to ask, but I'm having trouble registering on that site. All that matters to the functioning of a chess engine is that these numbers produce a rank ordering of positions, allowing the engine to select the move that leads to the most favorable. SugaR engine is derived from Stockfish and supports up to 128 cores. The specific values of these numbers dont especially matter. This chess engine features null move pruning, forward pruning, principal variation search, parallel search with up to 8 threads, and blockage detection in the endgames. It's doing "-" and "++", which I think is something particular to this engine. Stockfish and other chess engines operate by assigning numerical values to chess positions. Fugazy_Crapov, Stockfish is not doing the typical +-, +=, etc.
